For Runners
A pacer will help both new runners and seasoned veterans. They offer an interactive training program that gives feedback as you run. The pacer tells you when to push harder and when to ease up so that you’re always in your target heart rate zone. Using a pacer will also help with training for marathons or other long distance races as they keep you on track to finish in your goal time. There are also devices on the market that can store your route, time and pace which can later be uploaded on to your computer to track your training progress. This is a great way to set goals and improve your results.

For Golfers
Instead of relying on the yard markers on the course, which are moved every time someone cuts the fairway, why not try a more accurate GPS system? These devices can more accurately tell you the distance to the pin, but are not limited to just that. Most of the new devices have thousands of courses preloaded and can be updated at any time through your compute

Portion Sizes

A portion control diet is the easiest type of diet to follow because you’re not restricting your eating to any particular type of food, you’re just eating less. Portion control is not a fad, a detox or a quick fix. It is a method of achieving weight loss and creating a healthier lifestyle.

Why do we eat more? Mostly because it’s put right in front of us. Dinner plates are larger, restaurant portions are larger and we have it instilled in our brain that we must finish everything on our plate. Next time you’re in the grocery store or in the kitchen preparing dinner read the labels on your food. All food labels break the contents down into portions. These portions are broken down into individual serving sizes based on what is required to sustain us. By following these guidelines you’ll notice a huge difference in what is recommended and what you have been giving yourself and your family.

Downsize
Start by using a smaller plate and think about what you’re putting on it. 50% of

Children’s Diets

If you do choose to put your child on a “diet” it’s important to not use that word when describing their nutrition. The word “diet” has so many negatives associated with it and we don’t want our children to grow up thinking that dieting is healthy. Instead focus on nutrition and healthy eating. Never try a fad diet on your child or yourself.

Get involved in your child’s life so you are more aware of what they are eating both at home and when they are at school or with friends. Due to increased media attention school cafeterias have made major changes to what they will serve students for lunch. They have added more healthy options but your child still has a choice of what they will eat. By educating them at home to choose the right types of food you’ll set them off on the right foot when they have to make the decision on their own at school. A better option is to make a healthy lunch to send with your child to school.

We all live active lives and it can be difficult to always p

“The Big Gym Rip Off”

Big Gym Rip Off, MarketplaceBroadcast on Friday, January 7, 2011 by Marketplace on CBC

Hello, We wanted to take a moment to share a link and video with you from the TV show Marketplace shown on CBC ( Take a look at the video here http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/2011/biggymripoff/ ). The program was based on a survey of 773 people who were asked about gym memberships, cancellations, overbilling etc. We felt the program was very well done and although the program obviously does not help the fitness industry as a whole… the program and survey did educate the public regarding their basic rights.

Phoenix Fitness has been serving the Hamilton, Dundas and Ancaster areas since 1983 and has steadily grown based on our attention to client results and client relationships.

That having been said there have been instances over that 27 years (15 of our ownership) where a client has misread an agreement, a billing error has occurred or other errors by the client or business have occurred.

Errors are made in every industry by both clients and businesses. I believe believe the true motivation of  business is demonstrated by how well it handles it’s errors.

At Phoenix Fitness we take great pride in the relationships we have built with our clients and want to remind you if you have any concerns that we provide an educated and empowered team that can handle most concerns on the spot. Those issues that cannot be handled will be handled within 48 hours by either our Administrator Kristin who is on site at the club or our assistant manager Jeannie or if all else fails both club owners (Rita and I (Murray)) are also on site.

Yours in Health and Fitness,
Rita and Murray

Upside down Pullup At Phoenix Fitness Hamilton And what a fire it was !!!! Hamilton Personal Trainers giving their all for a great cause. “Out of the Cold”, an organization that helps those less fortunate to help themselves. From feeding, to clothing, to providing bedding, etc. to the homeless.
Phoenix Fitness West Hamilton members had the opportunity to pay back their Hamilton Personal Trainers for all the brutal workouts they had endured throughout the year. LOL. The bidding started Dec. 1st and on Dec. 14th, the highest bidder got their revenge on their favorite Hamilton Personal Trainer.
Blood, sweat and tears. Burpees, manmakers and pullups. Situps, pushups and boxjumps. You name it, it was done. From running and doing stairs to even a situp or two. The members had their Hamilton Personal Trainers working pretty hard for an hour. Some members out for their secret revenge even went so far as to bring in food and drink to taunt their victims…nuts, candy and even some wine!!!! Much fun had by all, and at the same time Phoenix Fitness West Hamilton members and staff came together and raised $1100.00 for “Out of the Cold”  GREAT JOB EVERYONE !!!!!
